Phlebotomy Technician Certification Course

This course teaches the student to acquire manual skills such as obtaining blood specimen by
venipuncture and skin puncture techniques as well as mental skills such as ability to organize
efficiently, perform under pressure and follow written standard procedures.
Students will obtain thorough knowledge of laboratory test requirements and departmental
policies.
In addition to training the student in collecting and transporting blood specimens for clinical
laboratory analyses, he will be trained to assist in the collection and transportation of specimens
other than venous blood. (i.e., urine, tissue, sputum).

The Phlebotomy module is an introductory course designed to provide the student with the skills
to be accurate, work well under pressure and communicate effectively as part of the healthcare
team.

The Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares students for the national certification examination
by incorporating practice exams and review sessions into the curriculum. Students will be
evaluated through a combination of theoretical exams, practical skill assessments, and clinical
performance reviews.

The prerequisites to take the certification exam with most agencies include the following

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a Phlebotomy Training Program OR 1 Year of On-The-Job Experience in
the Past 3 Years
• 30 Successful Blood Draws
• 10 Successful Capillary Sticks
After you have passed the final exam, your credentials are inputted in the national registry and a
digital copy of your official certification is available in your account.
